Paul Blackwell 1954 - 2019
Paul was in demand as an actor across Australia, featuring in comedy, theatre, musical
theatre, film and TV His rich, truthful, layered characters were a joy to behold and he
toured with shows throughout Australia and overseas.
He made us cry with laughter with his comic genius – a true clown who could hold the
audience in the palm of his hand.
He was a staunch supporter of Equity at the local level in Adelaide over 20 years or so,
becoming Equity Branch President and acting as delegate to NPC and Federal Council.
His genuine voice in a video for Equity’s 75 th birthday had an impact on all members in
SA and he was a compelling speech maker at bucket drives for the Benevolent Fund.
Paul shone on the stage and he was a guiding light in Life as well. He was a mentor to
new graduates, a support for colleagues and an excellent friend.
When his own Life journey was challenged, he still had time to connect and support with
us all, even emailing in to Performers Committee meetings.
Our lives are enriched by his presence – a wonderful legacy of arts and humanity.
